The Clan Hodgins
I
It was when BEMSEE moved from Haddenham airfield up to Silverstone in 1949 that the Clan Hodgins first became involved, not many Marshals wanted to travel up from London. The club contacted local bike dealers in the area to see if there was any interest from the customers to help out marshalling on a Saturday, one of those was Jack Middleton who had a bike shop in Bicester. That’s where it started for the family. Chas and Lillian had various roles within the club Chas as an Official and Lil in Collecting area or looking after marshals and dolling out soup and rolls to the workers at lunchtime. Their sons Dave and Chris had the roles of Traveling Marshals over the years, Chris went on to race with the club. Dave sons Gary and Paul and their mum Jenny also became marshals (well it’s in the blood)
Other members of the Clan are Mike and Lynda plus Martin who were marshals, Mike became Chief Marshal and also held the position of Director on the club board .representing marshals interests, their children Claire and Nick, followed the marshal tradition, and Nick also went on to race (see a pattern developing) Then in 2024 Claire took over from Traey Ringrow as the club's Race secretary The club is very grateful to have people of this dedication, who have given service over decades towards it and its members.
