E.C.E Baragwanath

A legend of the Brooklands Circuit. "Barry" Edward Charles Ellis Baragwanath raced Zenith, P. & P. and Brough Superiors during the 1920s, and apart from Brooklands, he competed in the numerous speed trials and hill climbs so popular in the early Vintage Years. Baragwanath became a legend in his own lifetime with his big Brough Superiors, both unblown and blown, In September 1926, Baragwanath won the 1000 cc Sidecar Championship at 85.43 mph, and repeated this success in September 1928. Between these triumphs, he won the 1000 cc 200 Miles Sidecar Race at 73.95 mph in May 1928.

He was a founding member of the club and started racing and tuning engines in 1910, he was never happier than when lapping Brooklands at over the Ton. When the club took on its present format post WW2, he became a Director of Bemsee. Following his death in 1961 his sister Mrs D Spencer gave the club a trophy in 1969 to commemorate his contribution which is still presented annually to this day.
